The Rules

Summary:

The aim is to score as many points as possible. You have a $60 million budget from which you must choose three different drivers, one chassis, and one engine. Carefully read the section entitled Scoring to try to maximise your chances. The administration and governance of the competition is covered in the section entitled Procedures.

For the purposes of Fantasy F1, the Qualifying Position will be taken as the position on the grid taken by the driver, i.e. after both qualifying sessions, and any driver behaviour penalties are applied. As far as Fantasy F1 is concerned, the pit lane forms part of the qualifying grid, with cars starting from the pit lane allotted qualifying positions appended to those that started on the actual grid.

If a driver attempts, but fails to qualify, he will incur a 5 point penalty

Finishing

For the purposes of Fantasy F1, all classifications are taken from those published on Forix Autosport (sub req'd), which are themselves a replication of the official FIA results.

Drivers classified as finishers score according to this table:

A driver will be classified as a finisher if he has completed 90% or more of the race winner's distance, irrespective of whether his car is still running. Hence if someone completes 44 laps of a 50 lap race, he will not be classified as a finisher, and conversely, if he blows up on lap 46 of 50, he will be classified as having finished.

Driver's finishing position is subtracted from starting position to give points for places made up or penalties for places lost. These are called position points.

Drivers score zero if they do not drive. Should one driver qualify a car which is subsequently driven by another driver, the qualifying driver will not score, and his qualifying points will be added to the driver who races the car.

If one of your selected drivers is sacked, retires, is injured, or for some other reason no longer drives in Formula 1, you will not score any more points for him. If, however, he secures a drive with another team, you will score points for his performances in his new team, even if there is a break between the two periods of employment.

Retirement

The first five drivers to retire lose 5, 4, 3 points down to 1 for the fifth retirement. The order of retirement is taken from the results as published on Forix Autosport, which are themselves a replication of the official FIA results.

Disqualification

If a driver is disqualified for an infringement adjudged by the FIA to be caused by him, then he loses all points scored during the weekend, plus he incurs a 5 point penalty. If the driver is disqualified for an infringement adjudged by the FIA to be caused by the team, the driver loses points scored (both positive and negative) but does not incur further penalty.

Chassis
Finishing

Top-eight finishing chassis score 5 + World Championship points.

If one team qualifies for retirement penalties and finishing bonus, the score will reflect the bonus minus the penalty.

Retirement

The first five chassis to retire lose points as for drivers.

Disqualification

If a car is disqualified for an infringement adjudged by the FIA to be caused by the team, then the chassis loses all points scored during the weekend, plus incurs a 5 point penalty. If both cars are disqualified, both lose all points, but only one incurs the penalty.

Engines
Finishing

Engines score as chassis for finishing, but without penalties for retirement.

Penalties

If a team replaces an engine and thus becomes penalised by the one-engine-per-two-weekends rule, the engine score will be reduced by five points per infringment. There is no limit to the number of times that this penalty can be applied. After an engine is replaced, the clock re-starts, and that engine must last for two race weekends.

Disqualification

If a car is disqualified for an infringement adjudged by the FIA to be caused by the engine, gearbox or differential, then the engines lose all points scored during the weekend, plus incur a 5 point penalty. If both cars are disqualified, both lose all points, but only one incurs the penalty.
